The heart for this studio is to teach everyone who enters about the healing and joy music can bring.
The Joy of Music Studio is for people of all abilities and stages of life. We desire to bring JOY to your musical journey with a focus on accessibility and inclusion.
With a lifetime of learning (because learning music never stops!) and 5 years of experience as a teacher, Michelle offers options in piano, guitar, ukulele, and vocals!
Using a kinesthetic approach with various methods of pattern recognition, Michelle focuses on each individual’s learning style and goals as a musician.
Michelle has experience working with people with various physical and mental abilities and strongly believes that anyone can learn the JOY of music regardless of their limitations.
Caregiver/Student Responsibilities
Location:
The Joy of Music Studio rents space out of The Well Church - Orangeville located at 21170 Hurontario St, Town Of Caledon, ON L7K 1X1.
Since the church allows us to use this space please note that there are sometimes other people attending church functions and not affiliated with The Joy of Music Studio. Be assured that lessons will remain private and kept completely separate from any church function.
However, the following are a few guidelines required for student safety.
Children are not to be left unattended in the waiting area for safety and liability reasons.
Please ensure that children are picked up promptly at the end of the scheduled lesson time so they are not waiting alone as there will often be a lesson scheduled directly afterwards. Caregivers are welcome to wait in the church foyer.
Any articles damaged or stolen while at the church are the responsibility of the parent. Please try not to leave any articles behind as this is a shared space.
Child and Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy
Due to the vulnerable nature of private lessons in an effort to ensure safety we are committed to keeping Vulnerable Sector Checks from the OPP up to date. We have also taken abuse prevention training through the Canadian Centre for Child Protection. Please let us know if you have any questions so we can better serve you and your loved ones in this area. This a safe and inclusive environment for anyone who wishes to learn.
Mutual Respect
The Joy of Music Studio is a place of mutual respect, acceptance, and inclusion for everyone. Preferred pronouns will be used in an effort to create a safe environment for everyone.
Please note that there is no tolerance for bullying and discrimination so if anyone is mistreated the perpetrator will be politely asked to leave.
Allergies:
Please be aware that we are a nut free, coconut free, and scent free environment due to anaphylactic allergies. Michelle carries an epipen for anaphylaxis to coconut so please ensure that no snacks or skincare products containing coconut are on you (or your child) when attending lessons. Thank you! Please let us know in your registration form if you have any allergies as we strive to be a safe space for all.

Some photos will be used for social media and advertising purposes. Please indicate on the Student Agreement what your preferences are in this area. Photos and faces will not be posted without permission.
Practicing
Practicing is important! However, due to the nature of the people we serve here at The Joy of Music Studio, sometimes it is not always possible due to limitations. Please go easy on yourself!
We believe in providing a rewards based system in which student and teacher agree on a reasonable amount of time dedicated to practice. This can be different for each student and will be written in weekly practice notes available in the student portal - a paper copy can be available upon request.
Once a student has completed their practice for the week they will be awarded with a star sticker! After 10 weeks (ie. 10 star stickers) they will be rewarded with a prize from the prize box! Rewards based learning is an effective approach to motivate students to learn on their own.
Of course any support from caregivers in the area of practicing at home is very welcome as learning is often a team effort. Open communication between caregiver and teacher about the development in their journey is beneficial for all parties. We only see them for 30 minutes of the week, so please let us know how we can better help them succeed!
Rates
In Studio Lessons:
$30/per 30 minute lesson
In-Home Lessons:
$35/per 30 minute lesson
Notes: Optional trial lessons are 20 minutes long and free of charge for new students!
Invoice/Payment:
All lessons will be invoiced and tracked via mymusicstaff.com and can be seen through your student portal! Invoice will be sent by the 15th of the month (ie. April 15-May 15) and payment is required by the last day of the month. Please ensure that this is paid promptly or your lessons may be discontinued. (see renewal policy) Payment can be made via e-transfer to michellejoyebymusic@gmail.com OR via cash or cheque made out to The Joy of Music Studio.
Attendance Policy
Cancellation Policy: Please email michellejoyebymusic@gmail.com or text 226-622-0204 to leave a cancellation message with subject line “CANCELLATION”. 24 hours notice is required or you will be charged for the lesson.
Winter Weather: If buses are canceled but schools are open, all lessons are still running. If you cannot attend due to dangerous road conditions, call or email before 9am to reschedule OR setup online lesson. If notification is not given or given after 9am it will be counted as a regular miss and you will be charged. Please call or text 226-622-0204 or email michellejoyebymusic@gmail.com.
School Closure: If schools are closed, all lessons will be cancelled, and you will not be charged. If you wish to reschedule a lesson cancelled due to weather, please check for reschedule days in the calendar in your student portal.
Reschedule Policy: If you have canceled a lesson with 24 hours notice OR cancelled before 9am on a bad weather day you have the option to reschedule your lesson! Please check the calendar in your student portal for set times that Michelle is available for reschedules or contact Michelle directly. Thanks!
Holiday Policy:
Lessons that fall on stat or Dufferin-Peel public school holidays (ex. 2 week Christmas break) will be cancelled and will not be counted as missed lessons. Lessons will run as usual on private school holidays, PA days, and all other regular school days. Rescheduled lessons can be arranged in advance for Monday students missing several lessons due to holidays.
Renewal Policy:
Lessons will be automatically renewed every month when payment is received for the previous month. If you have not paid for your monthly invoice by it’s due date lessons will need to be discontinued until it is paid in full.
If you wish to cancel your lessons, please give 2 weeks notice making it clear that you are taking a break from lessons including your stop date since your regular timeslot is reserved for you. When you choose to return to lessons, your previous time slot may not be available but we will do my best to find a new time that works for your schedule.

Summer lessons
Regular lessons run from September until the end of June. Summer lessons will be available to those who wish to sign up! Summer lessons can be arranged with Michelle by the end of June and will run during the months of July and August. Please note that summer lessons are available during the day!
